E-bike and battery recalls, and the brands we do not accept
Most marketplaces leave it to you to find out whether an e-bike has been recalled. We do that work ourselves. Every day we check the UK, EU and US product safety sites to help protect sellers from being left answerable for a fault they never knew about, and buyers from bringing home a bike, battery or charger with a known fire risk. It takes real effort, and we believe very few marketplaces go this far. We think your safety is worth it.
This page brings together the public safety notices for e-bikes, e-bike batteries and chargers from the UK, EU and US recall sites over the last 10 years (134 notices since ), counted by brand. Fire and burn risks come first; every other recall is in the last table. It is checked every day.

Are you one of these brands?
Contact our customer support with evidence that all of your e-bikes, batteries and chargers hold the relevant UK or EU safety certificates. Once we have checked them, we take the brand off this list.
Own one of these bikes and want to sell it?
Ask the manufacturer for the safety certificates for your bike and its battery: the declaration of conformity and the battery's test report. Send them to our customer support. The more owners ask, the sooner a brand provides them.

Questions
Which e-bike brands does WattMatch not accept?
A brand is not accepted when it has 2 or more fire-risk safety notices for its e-bikes, batteries or chargers on the UK, EU or US recall sites within the last 24 months. The current list is in the "Brands not accepted on WattMatch" table on this page.
How can a brand be taken off the banned list?
The brand contacts WattMatch customer support and sends evidence that all of its e-bikes, batteries and chargers hold the relevant UK or EU safety certificates. Once we have checked them, the brand is taken off the list.
I own an e-bike from a banned brand. Can I sell it on WattMatch?
Not at the moment. Ask the manufacturer for the safety certificates for your bike and its battery (the declaration of conformity and the battery's test report) and send them to our customer support. If the brand provides them for all its bikes, batteries and chargers, the brand can be taken off the list.
Where does this information come from?
From the public product safety notices published by UK Product Safety (OPSS), EU Safety Gate and US CPSC. We check them every day. When the UK files the same finding on both the UK and EU sites, it is counted once.
Does a notice mean every bike from that brand is unsafe?
No. A notice usually covers particular models or batches, and some are recalls the maker started itself. If you own an e-bike or battery from a brand listed here, check the model with the manufacturer or on the official recall site, and stop charging it if you notice heat, swelling, smells or damage.
I am buying a used e-bike. What should I check?
Check whether the make and model has been recalled, and if it has, ask the seller for proof that the recall work was done (for example a dealer receipt or the manufacturer's confirmation). This applies to every recall, not only fire risks.
